Description: Niagara Children’s Centre is an important partner with Speech Services Niagara (SSN). It is the lead agency and the main site of Speech Services Niagara. SSN staff may facilitate referrals to programs and services within the Niagara Children’s Centre in order to meet the needs of children receiving services.

A primary partner in Speech Services Niagara providing Speech-Language Pathology services and playing an integral team role in the operations of the preschool speech and language system.

Partnership Role: Provide coordinated and complimentary services for preschoolers accessing Speech Services Niagara acting as a referral source for SSN.

Healthy Babies , Healthy Children
The Healthy Babies Healthy Children Program provides home visits by public health nurses and home visitors to expectant mothers and parents with children from birth to transition to school, who need more support to achieve healthy child development and effective parenting. New moms are screened in hospital following the birth of a baby to determine who would benefit most from the program. Families can also access the program by calling the Parent Talk Information Line (905)688-8248 or 1-888-505-6074 ext 7555.

Child Health
Parenting groups/presentations, breastfeeding clinics, Parent Talk Information Line (905) 688-8248 or 1-888-505-6074 ext. 7555, presentations, media campaigns and Postpartum Depression support groups are all offered by the Public Health nurses. Parents can contact Public Health directly.

Family Home Visiting
This program offers extra support to families by providing a Public Health Nurse and Family Home Visitor that can provide information and assist the whole family to create an environment that encourages healthy child development.

Infant and Child Development Services
This family-centred early intervention program provides service and service co-ordination for children birth to 5 and their families. These children are developing more slowly than expected or their development is at risk because of known or unknown medical problems. Programming is provided in home and in group settings; assessments, goal setting and referrals to other community services can be made.

Partnership Role: Provide coordinated and complimentary services for preschoolers accessing Speech Services Niagara

Description: Provides consultation and training service for parents, caregivers and professionals involved with children who exhibit: aggressive behaviour, social / emotional development issues including Asperger’s Syndrome, and/or defiant behaviours. Referrals are made by accessing Contact Niagara.

Early Assessment Support and Intervention Service
Promotes the healthy, social and emotional development of preschool-aged children and their families. Services may include – counselling, play therapy, outreach services, and consultation with child care provider.

Service: Access to Children’s and Development Services

Partnership Role: Connects families of preschoolers to services in Niagara including SSN, participates in service co-ordination

Description:Resource coordinators help to explain local resources for children who experience emotional / behavioural difficulties and people of all ages who have developmental disabilities. They guide you through an interview process to identify the information required for support to begin and make the appropriate referrals to required services.

Service: Information, training and resources relating to childcare for Early Childhood Educators

Partnership Role: Connects families to childcare resources and promotes quality childcare services through the Quality Child Care Niagara Program. Facilitates Speech Services Niagara presentations on emergent literacy and language to RECEs in Niagara.

Service: Supports for children, youth and families; offer Early Learning and Parenting programs

Partnership Role: Serve as a referral source for SSN and SSN staff work collaboratively with Parenting Programs and FACS Resource Consultants to provide education on early communication and emergent literacy development.

Description: The children’s aid society investigates the abuse and neglect of children and provides protection, foster care and adoption services. They offer a wide range of programs to prevent and treat the problems of abuse and neglect and to support the children, youth and families in our community.

Partnership Role: SSN offers presentations on the topics of communication and emergent literacy within the Strive outreach programs.

Partnership Role: SSN provides consultative services to OEYCs; encourages access to OEYCs

Partnership Role: SSN provides support for the local Infant Hearing Program and offers communication services for children from birth to age 6 years with hearing loss

Partnership Role: Provides full hearing assessments and other hearing services


Location: Greater Niagara Region

Description: Provide consultation and training services for parents, caregivers and other professionals who are involved with preschool children. Services may include – behaviour management interventions, strengthening parenting skills, accessing community services, presentations, groups, and educational workshops, parenting programs such as COPE (Community Parent Education Program) and 123 Magic.
